10 medium cucumbers
8 cups sugar
2 tablespoons pickle spices
5 teaspoons salt
4 cups cider vinegar

Cover whole cucumbers with boiling water. Let stand until the next morning. Drain and discard the water. Repeat on the next 3 mornings. On the 5th day, drain and slice pickles ½ inch thick. Combine sugar, spices, salt and vinegar; bring to a boil. Pour over pickles. On the 3rd day heat to boiling. Fill jars and seal.
